- How do I find SBIR solicitations?
Each government agency independently releases their solicitations on their respective websites on their own published schedules.
- Who wins SBIR/STTR grants?
Generally any small business under 500 employees is eligible to bid on and win SBIR/STTR grants. Over 25% of SBIR/STTR awards are to small businesses with less than 10 employees with no previous award. If you have an innovative idea or technology chances are there is SBIR/STTR funding out there for you!
- What are Phase 1, Phase 2, and Phase 3 SBIRs and STTRs?
SBIR Phase 1 awards funds initial study and feasibility analysis of your idea or technology to solve the sponsor's problem. Phase 1s are usually 6-12 months and up to $150,000.
SBIR Phase 2 awards funds prototype development to demonstrate a working proof-of-concept solution. Phase 2s are usually 18-24 months and up to $1,000,000.
SBIR Phase 3 awards represent a growth of your technology beyond the technology development focus of the SBIR program. Phase 3 awards fund technology transition and commercialization to meet specific government needs. There are no caps on Phase 3 durations or funding levels.
